Ways to deal with children that are picky eaters

As a parent, your child's health is your top priority. You want to make sure they are getting all the nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy. But what happens when your little one becomes a picky eater? It can be frustrating and overwhelming, but don't worry - we've got some tips to help you overcome this challenge.

1. Try offering food when your child is hungry.
When their tummy is growling, they may be more willing to try new things and less likely to be picky. Plus, it can be easier to convince them to eat when they're genuinely hungry.

2. Limit their intake of sweet foods and drinks.
While it may be tempting to give in to their demands for sugary snacks, it's important to remember that these foods can be addictive and make it harder for your child to develop a taste for healthier options.

3. Get creative with your food preparation!
Kids love colourful and fun shapes, so try making their meals more interesting by using cookie cutters or arranging the food in fun designs. This can pique their curiosity and make mealtime more enjoyable for everyone.

4. Take your little one grocery shopping with you.
This can be a great opportunity to teach them about different foods and get them involved in the decision-making process. Let them pick out a new fruit or vegetable to try and encourage them to take ownership of their food choices.

5. During mealtime, try to keep distractions to a minimum.
Turn off the TV and put away any toys or devices that could divert their attention. This can help them focus on their food and encourage them to try new things.
Lastly, resist the urge to bribe your child with gifts or rewards for eating. This can create a negative association with food and set up unhealthy habits in the long run. Instead, try to make mealtimes a fun and positive experience, and celebrate their successes along the way.

Being a parent is hard work, but with these tips, you can help your picky eater develop a more adventurous palate and set them up for a lifetime of healthy eating habits. Good luck!
